Fife Summer Jazz Course participant
Jazz enthusiasts have a fantastic opportunity to take part in this Summer Course, which attracts participants from all over the UK and is organised by Arts Development, Arts and Theatres Trust Fife. It comprises a series of morning, afternoon and evening sessions where you will have the opportunity to work with some of the best jazz tutors in the country with a view to improving and developing standards of playing, public performance and improvisation. Previous jazz experience is not essential for this course but a basic grounding in your chosen instrument(s) would be an advantage.
This is a practical course with the emphasis firmly placed upon playing and singing. The theory taught relates to everything played and participants are guaranteed to have their ears and minds opened to the world of improvisation. Richard Michael has led this experienced team of tutors for many years and their collective enthusiasm and knowledge is much respected in the world of jazz. Richard is a passionate believer that "mistakes are cool" and you are invited to come along and make mistakes as loudly and clearly as you want. A feature of this year's Jazz Course will be workshops based on the Associated Board's Jazz Piano Syllabus. Richard has been developing the Board's syllabus at various venues and has presented the syllabus at seminars in South East Asia.
The venue for the course is St Leonards School and Sixth Form College, St Andrews. The school has excellent accommodation and facilities including a Music Suite which was purpose-built for practising, teaching and performing. It also has individual, acoustically-designed practice rooms and a music auditorium.
