The Lochgelly Centre is now closed for a major upgrade and will re-open in 2011. Fife Council's Capital Investment Plan will fund the development which includes the extension of the Centre to create a bright, modern area for local library and heritage services that will benefit both existing and new users. The strong links with those who use the Centre will be maintained wherever possible. The creative learning opportunities currently available will be located in alternative venues throughout Lochgelly. Information regarding these alternative locations will be available shortly. During the refurbishment, staff will be based in the local library to provide information on the wide range of other cultural activities available at our three other venues - Carnegie Hall, Dunfermline, Rothes Halls, Glenrothes and The Adam Smith Theatre in Kirkcaldy. This information is also available at www.attfife.org.uk
Verdi Clark, Theatre Manager at Lochgelly, will be based at Carnegie Hall, Dunfermline, during the refurbishment and can be reached on 01383 602302.
The Lochgelly Centre is a creative learning centre that serves as a base for many local groups and organisations.
We have:
- a 424-seat theatre that’s ideal for community theatre groups, dance groups and music events
- three exhibition spaces that are well used and feature local and established artists
- a café and bar with a full and varied menu for people who use our facilities.
We run full-day and weekend workshops for people of all ages, for example drawing and painting, jewellery, dressmaking and pottery. And our resident Dance Company ‘On The Runn’ works with local people to get them involved in performances.
We’re also home to the Fife Children’s Theatre and Fife Children’s Theatre workshop, which run various arts and performance projects throughout the year.
Our plans include developing our centre to bring together Fife Council’s Local Office, a library, regeneration office and other services for local people.
